Welcome

I live in Surf City, North Carolina on the ocean's edge continuously receiving inspiration from this environment. As a self-employed visual artist, I do beach house signs, "artnames", watercolors and interior murals, all on commission. I'm also doing canvas paintings in acrylic that connect with the colors and lights seen on the ocean and its surroundings, as well as inner light. My paintings are part of the balance I aspire to these days.

FROM

I have been doing artwork since around age 8, when I won a Poster contest held in my small South Alabama hometown. My art education includes the University of Alabama for both my undergraduate and my Master of Fine Arts degree (1972). My areas of study were painting and art history. Next, I moved to NYC for a year, which exposed me to an incredible amount of contemporary art going on in the Soho area. I had a small exhibit of my drawings on Thompson St. in the village. My appreciation of the earlier Masters was enhanced by touring the many fine art museums in the city.
On the road...
After the N.Y. experience, I began a series of residences in programs in Alabama and later North Carolina. These residences included, Artist-In-Schools and Visiting Artist in several N.C. Community Colleges. I also taught art in a number of public schools. In 1992-1993 I designed cut-out and painted furniture accessories and worked as a painter for two movies produced in Wilmington, N.C.

GOING

I am working towards a more spiritual-based direction, a balance with my art being a by-product, an outward expression of this growth. The discovery of new visual surfaces, unseen previously by my eyes is very attractive to my artistic quest.
A number of commissions have come my way in a variety of disciplines and media. Actions are speaking stronger than words as I go forward. I am open to new endeavors, commissions that are both interesting and challenging to me. I welcome inquiries in regard to such possibilities.
